Chinese Jade, Jadeite & hardstone carvings
Jade has been a precious material in China since 4700BC. Traditionally mined in the Northwest mountains, it was often mining exclusively for the Imperial household. With limited quantities being sold under strict observation from the Palace.
Jadeite as we know it, the green hues of translucent gem-like qualities has been worked in China since the late 18th century. Primary sourced in Burma and carved in China for the domestic market. It is this gem quality jadeite that is worth it’s weight greater than gold.
Both jade and jadeite have been regarded as a conduit between heaven and earth- thus it’s popularity as a pendant and as an object used in jewelry.
